# Quick Reference - Smartboard Support

## What Changed?
Your SLS Prompt Library HTML now supports smartboards (IR touch) alongside desktop (mouse) and tablet (capacitive touch).

## Key Improvements

### 1. Touch Event System
- New `TouchHandler` class handles all touch interactions
- Automatically converts touch to click events
- Prevents accidental clicks with location checking
- Debounces bouncy IR touch (50ms)

### 2. Larger Touch Targets
- **Before**: 22-26px clickable areas
- **After**: 44-54px touch targets (WCAG compliant)
- Buttons, tags, form inputs - all enlarged for touch

### 3. Visual Feedback
When you tap a button on a smartboard:
- Element becomes slightly transparent
- Glow effect (blue box-shadow) appears
- Scale effect mimics button press
- All feedback is instant (no delay)

### 4. Smart Popover Placement
- Popovers now check screen bounds
- Won't overflow off edge of smartboard
- Close button is easy to tap (32×32px)
- Works with touch-outside detection

### 5. No Hover-Only Interactions
- Old problem: Hover effects on smartboards don't work
- New solution: `:active` states work on touch
- All buttons respond to tapping, not just hovering

## How to Use

### On Desktop
- Everything works as before (mouse clicks)
- No changes needed

### On Tablet
- Tap buttons/tags to interact
- Touch targets auto-detect and enlarge
- All features work normally

### On Smartboard
- All targets are large (48-54px)
- Tap once to activate (no double-tap)
- Visual feedback shows what will happen
- Spacing prevents accidental adjacent taps

## Technical Stack

### CSS
- `@media (hover: none) and (pointer: coarse)` - Touch device detection
- `:active` pseudo-class - Touch visual feedback
- Flexbox + Grid - Responsive layout

### JavaScript
- Touch Events API (`touchstart`, `touchmove`, `touchend`)
- No external libraries (vanilla JS)
- ~3KB additional code
- <1ms runtime overhead per touch

### Browser Support
- Chrome/Edge (Windows smartboards)
- Safari (iPad)
- Firefox (all platforms)
- Mobile browsers (iOS/Android)

## Most Important Changes

### 1. Bigger Buttons (48×48px minimum)
Perfect for IR touch imprecision

### 2. Touch Event Handlers
Properly convert finger taps to actions

### 3. No Hover Dependency
Buttons work with tapping, not hovering

### 4. Instant Visual Feedback
Users know what they're about to click

### 5. Popover Improvements
Tooltips work and close properly on touch

## Testing

Open the file in:
- ✅ Chrome on Windows (test with mouse)
- ✅ Safari on iPad (test with capacitive touch)
- ✅ SMART Board interactive display (test with IR touch)

All should work identically - just the input method changes!

## For Developers

If you modify the HTML:

```javascript
// Register a new button for touch support
const myNewButton = document.getElementById('myButton');
TouchHandler.init(myNewButton);
```

Or let automatic setup handle it:
```javascript
TouchHandler.setupAll(); // Runs on DOMContentLoaded
```

## Common Questions

**Q: Will my mouse stop working?**
A: No! Mouse support is unchanged. Touch detection is automatic and doesn't affect mouse.

**Q: Do buttons need to be square?**
A: No, any shape works. Width×Height minimum is 48×44px (buttons can be longer).

**Q: What about drag-and-drop?**
A: Works with touch! Generated interactives include `touchstart/touchmove/touchend` handlers.

**Q: Does this work offline?**
A: Yes! No external dependencies. Pure HTML/CSS/JavaScript.

**Q: Can I customize touch behavior?**
A: Yes! See SMARTBOARD_SUPPORT.md for API docs.
