By Timotty Third Indochina War Interactive Map Learning Objectives: evaluate the factors that shaped the development of Cold War conflicts in Southeast Asia Interactive Prompt: I want to design an interactive map for the Third Indochina War for my students. Grade level: JC1 Student readiness level: Mixed Abilities The data visualisation focuses on exploring the outbreak and development of the Third Indochina War, focusing on the historical context of the War, the timeline of the key developments, and the countries involved in the War. This resource will help students to understand causes of inter-state tensions through examining the actions of Cambodia and Vietnam, and to contextualise the Third Indochina War in the Cold War. The objective of the interactive map is to help students evaluate the factors that shaped the development of Cold War conflicts in Southeast Asia. While exploring the map, students should be able to see the surrounding region of Southeast Asia that shows the locations of the Cold War-related conflicts and confrontations happening globally. This map should allow the target audience to zoom in and to zoom out to place the relevant countries in frame. The resource should allow the target audience to explore the map at their own pace. There should be distinct colours to differentiate the countries (Vietnam, Cambodia, China, USA, USSR) that have been explored in the interactive map. There should be the name of the country accompanying its general area of the map. Upon clicking the country, there should be a pop-up box giving a brief description of the country's involvement in the Third Indochina War. Overall, the colour scheme should be bright and vibrant, and the illustrations should be engaging and appealing for the target audience, while ensuring sensitivity in the portrayal of countries and people (i.e., no stereotyping or exaggeration).
